November Citrine

This vibrant gemstone ranges in colour from pastel yellow to intense fiery orange. The name is derived from Citron, a lemon-like fruit. Citrine’s yellow hues are caused by iron in quartz crystals. A member of the quartz family, it’s well known close relative is amethyst, and the two can be found in single gemstones carrying both yellow and purple, known as Ametrine.

Citrine was used by the Romans to create intaglio pieces of art and was revered by its rarity.

During the Art Deco period, between the two world wars, large citrines were set in many prized pieces for Hollywood stars like Joan Crawford and Greta Garbo. Nowadays the stone is not so rare and is enjoying somewhat of a renaissance.

It is a very durable and strong stone, and this added to its warm glow, make it the perfect choice for our fast paced, busy lives.

Below are a few items that show off this warm birthstone.
